Academic, scientific, and community-oriented activities and events at Private Higher Education Institutions represent a key pathway for enhancing the quality of the educational experience, developing students' skills and capabilities, supporting scientific research and innovation, and fostering a culture of participation and social responsibility—all in alignment with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
In this context, the Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Private Universities and Colleges, performs a regulatory and supervisory role in overseeing the activities and events conducted by private higher education institutions. This is carried out through the Educational Services Department within the framework of an ongoing partnership with approximately 25 educational institutions, thereby contributing to enhancing the quality of programs and events and maximizing their academic and societal impact.
This partnership encompasses the coordination, organization, and hosting of a diverse range of conferences, seminars, workshops, forums, specialized lectures, and community-oriented programs and initiatives. These activities provide students, as well as academic and administrative staff, with expanded opportunities for learning, knowledge exchange, and engagement with experts and professionals from within the Sultanate of Oman and abroad, all while ensuring strict adherence to applicable regulations, Omani values, national principles, and prevailing legislation.
Student engagement is a top priority regarding activities and events; private higher education institutions maintain specialized departments dedicated to planning, organizing, and overseeing the implementation of programs and activities, ensuring their alignment with the institution's educational and developmental goals.
The Student Advisory Council plays an active role in this regard through its standing subcommittees, including the Activities and Initiatives Committee, working in coordination with the relevant institutional bodies. This enables students to contribute to proposing and implementing initiatives, reinforcing their role as partners in enriching university life and fostering skills in leadership, teamwork, innovation, and social responsibility.
The first half of 2026 witnessed a remarkable movement in the field of activities and events in non-governmental higher education institutions, as the Directorate-General of Private Universities and Colleges dealt with more than 112 various events, which included academic, scientific and community events, including internal events directed at students and members of the institutions, and external ones that hosted speakers, experts, and academics from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.
These activities underwent study and review in accordance with established regulations and requirements, thereby helping to ensure quality of execution, clarity of objectives, and appropriateness of content, while achieving the desired added value for the institution, students, and the community. The activities ranged from scientific conferences, seminars, workshops, and forums to specialized lectures, programs, and community initiatives, reflecting the broad scope of contributions made by non-governmental higher education institutions in supporting knowledge, innovation, and community service.
These efforts embody the Ministry of Education’s drive to build an effective, sustainable partnership with private higher education institutions, encouraging them to transform their activities and events from traditional university practices into impactful tools for developing student skills, supporting scientific research and innovation, fostering community engagement, and linking knowledge to development needs.
The Ministry emphasizes the importance of aligning activities and events with the goals of Oman Vision 2040, thereby enhancing the quality of the educational process, creating added value for society, and contributing to the development of an educational environment that is more open to knowledge, expertise, and partnerships.
During the second half of 2026, the Ministry aims to sustain this momentum and enhance the quality and nature of activities and events. The focus is on initiatives with a lasting impact, expanding opportunities for student participation, and supporting events that foster future-oriented skills, innovation, scientific research, and community service. This underscores the growing role of higher education institutions in contributing to sustainable development and preparing national talent equipped with the knowledge, skills, and capabilities to participate effectively in the development process and help achieve the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
