The Ministry of Education, represented by the Center for Vocational Guidance and Student Counseling, and in cooperation with the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States, implemented Tuesday morning a training program on “the field of psychological health for children and adolescents.” Participating it this program are twenty-five psychologists from various schools of the educational directorates in the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. The program aims at providing participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for psychological health and training them on a number of preventive and curative interventions with psychological problems that students may face in the school environment. The training program continues for three consecutive days and takes place at Al Amal Club of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth.

This training program includes an integrated training package for the trainer and trainee in the field of psychological health that includes psychological, social, mental and linguistic developmental characteristics in childhood and adolescence, studying psychological health indicators in the various age stages that students go through, identifying common psychological disorders in children and adolescents, and how to deal with them through preventive, therapeutic, psychological and educational interventions. It also includes an educational guide for parents and teachers in the field of psychological health of children and adolescents due to the importance of the integrative role that school and family play in the psychological development of children. This guide includes a number of psychological health issues, including psychological and social development, mental development, language and speech development, psychological flexibility, attachment, and bullying, with an explanation of preventive and curative interventions carried out by both the family and the school.

On the importance of this training program, Dr. Muhammad Al-Sharika, Director of the Information Sector in the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States, said: “This training program "Psychological Health for Children and Adolescents" comes within the continuous efforts of the Arab Bureau of Education to develop the skills of psychological cadres in the ministries of education in the member states in order to enable them to detect early psychological problems experienced by some children and adolescents to be able to deal early with those challenges that may affect educationally, socially or pedagogically. Psychological health is no less important than other educational aspects, but rather complements them. No one is exempt from injury or exposure to psychological conditions or diseases, and it is possible to be exposed to it at any age, so the Arab Bureau of Education works to provide appropriate support for various initiatives in the field of psychological health, to promote interest in psychological culture and deal with various psychological conditions that children and adolescents may face.”
